Red letter day

I did something yesterday that may never happen again in my lifetime. I outsmarted the IT guy. The two of us were setting up my new lab equipment and he couldn't figure out how to connect everything properly. I had a bad connection that we couldn't fix and a cable that we couldn't place. He left at the end of a long afternoon and said we'd revisit it today. I sat there for a while and figure out the problem... I was so excited about it just because it isn't every day someone can do something related to computers/electronic equipment that an IT guy can't (particularly someone as computer inept as me). So yesterday was a red letter day for me.

In other news, my car is working again. There was nothing MAJOR wrong with it. I guess it was just revolting against the cold weather. I had a tune up done, spark plugs replaced, and a fuel service. While I was there I got the oil changed too. Oh yeah, and apparently there's this little piece called the PVC valve. I once knew what it was for because I forced the guy at Jiffy Lube to explain it to me before I gave an OK to replace it. Turns out that Saturns are really particular when it comes to that part, and my valve was not a Saturn valve.... I had that part replaced too. Car seems to be running fine, it is even idling better. Whew!

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods? We have snow in the forecast for the 7th straight week in a row. The high on Friday is going to be a whopping 7 degrees. What happened to global warming anyway?

My car won't start!

So some of you may know that I left for work Monday morning only to find out that my car wouldn't start. Fortunately I have been able to make use of Cullen's Taxi service to get to and from work the past two days. This morning I had the poor girl towed to the auto shop. I haven't gotten a diagnosis yet, but am very curious to know what the heck is wrong. The battery is fine. So it could be a ton of things... spark plug, fuel injector, timing belt....? Hmmm....

In other news I was supposed to run yesterday but was unmotivated. I will be running today instead. Today will be run # 4 in my 57 days of running as I train for the Bolder Boulder 10K.

Not much else going on other than the damned cold weather. Today we are finally supposed to get to about 40 degrees, and tomorrow is supposed to be warm too before ANOTHER cold spell and some snow hits us this weekend. I am so sick of winter. I'm F f f f reezing!

OK so my weather bug says that today's low is supposed to be 11 degrees... then why the hell is it currently -8? UGH! I am so done with this cold weather. It is SO cold outside that my windows in my condo are actually developing frost on them in the morning. Sorry, just felt like venting. What happened to global warming anyway?

In other news I was NOT motivated to run last night after work. I did get up and workout this morning, but I'll have to make up that run this weekend. Which leads nicely into the segue, thank goodness it's Friday! I'm looking forward to this evening. Cullen and I are going to have dinner at his parent's and play Cranium (which we acquired over Christmas). I love that game =)

Happy (Belated) New Year!

It's been a while since I posted... guess I just got caught up in all the holiday hoopla. Christmas and New Year's came and went. I was happy to be home and see family and friends, though I didn't get to accomplish everything on my agenda. I spent most of my time home trying to kick a bad cold, but managed to have some fun along the way. The highlight of the trip was going to see Wicked on Broadway. While Cullen had no means for comparison, I've seen a number of shows on Broadway, and this one is at the top of my chart. It will be a night I am sure both of us will remember for years to come.

I got back to Colorado only to suffer in the deep freeze that is taking over this year's unusual winter weather. Granted, this IS Colorado, but it is also an uncharacteristically cold and snowy start to 2007. Greeley has already had more than it's annual average snow accumulation. And in less than 2 weeks we will break the record for number of consecutive days with snow on the ground. I love snow, but the icy driveway and bitter cold temperatures are starting to wear me down.

In other news I passed my latest Karate testing which makes me an Orange Belt (picture below). I also started this week training for my 10K. I am so out of shape compared to a few months ago, so that's pretty frustrating for me. It is definitely going to be slow going. I have a schedule of 3 runs per week for 19 weeks - that's 57 total workouts, and I have #2 this afternoon.
