increased security?

Ok so I flew from New York to Colorado yesterday, and I was very curious to see how security would be after the terrorist activity in England. Turns out that Laguardia was definitely doing some 'profiling'. Do you want to know WHO they were profiling? WOMEN. Yep that's right folks. They were checking bags at the gate before boarding... carefully scrutinizing purses and handbags (gotta get those bottle of lotion and tubes of lip gloss!). Meanwhile, men with rollers were walking right onto the plane without so much as a pat down. I, myself, had a purse and a laptop bag. The purse was THOUROUGHLY checked. My targus laptop bag was casually patted from the outside, and I was allowed to proceed. I was kinda surprised... I mean I could have been hiding any number of items no longer allowed on the plane... but they wouldn't know because they didn't even ask me to unzip it. And what of the roller bags that went on unchecked? Who knows. And as an aside, how many of the captured terrorists have been women? huh? I would love to know how airports around the country are tackling the situation. Hopefully they are being more thourough than the folks at NYC's Laguardia airport.

catching up

Well I'm in NY and have been for the past two weeks... I am on week 3 of my massive 3 week vacation. It's been great to get away and actually have enough time to spend with both family and friends. I got a chance to lose big and win big at the casino (Dad's favorite vacation activity), hit the beach on Long Island with Rob, and visited with college friends at the Eig BBQ fest. I was able to catch up with Tanya who I only see about once a year and Laurie who I hadn't seen in a few years. I saw Lori's condo "Connie" and was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was, though she's got to do something with her plain white walls =) I suggested she enlarge some of the amazing shots she took during her Alaska cruise and frame them. I am currently up at my sister and brother in law's new house... it's really nice. Beautiful hardwood floors, tasteful decor, nice view (it's not the Colorado Rockies, but it will do). Anyway I am really enjoying myself, but the vacation is winding down and stress is rising as I know I am in store for a rude awakening when I return to Colorado - major cruch time the week before classes start. In the meantime, please enjoy some pictures I have from the BBQ at Casa del Eig.
