Do you faint at the sight of blood?

So yesterday I had an interesting experience. I was slicing some turkey tenderloin and wasn't smart enough to use a fork... I ended up missing the meat and sliced my left index finger pretty badly.

It bled a lot and I put pressure on it and raised it above my head. It hurt, but I thought I would be OK, then I THINK I went into somewhat of a shocked state. I got nauseous, almost vomited (gagged once into a trashcan). When I did that I felt like I was going to shit and also felt faint... I quickly got myself to the bathroom and stuck my head between my knees. I ALMOST fainted on the way to the bathroom. Good thing I made it to the toilet though because I did use it, and then started sweating pretty badly so Cullen got some ice for me.

Eventually the finger did stop bleeding (thankfully, because I did NOT want to have to go to the ER for stitches), It was swollen and purple/blue from the line of clotting. We bandaged it up and I took some Ibuprofen. It was pretty painful for about an hour and then it didn't really bother me for the rest of the evening.

What was strange was that I didn't know I would react so badly to a self inflected wound. I don't know if it was the sight of my blood or the scare of needing to go to the ER or what, but I was a mess. Gagging, shitting, fainting, sweating... what a disaster I was. I have always been fascinated with medical science, I love watching surgeries on TV, I've performed dissections on cadavers... but I slice my finger and I shut down. That was bizarre to me.

Hope y'all are staying warm back east, looks as though the deep freeze we were in has finally arrived on your doorstep. Today we are supposed to get up into the 40s - 50s in Greeley, Denver is supposed to hit about 60. It will be nice to have some melting. I spent about two hours on Saturday with some neighbors breaking up the glacier that had taken over our culdesac, we used a heavy duty ice pick, an axe, some chemical melt, and a bunch of shovels. My poor shovel is in bad shape, I need to go get a new one.
