No Chemistry

So I got back into the dating game. Back in February, I went out with this guy. He took me to dinner, left the restaurant to go to my favorite local coffee shop for coffee, played some chess, chatted... it was a really good date. Then he had to go on a business trip for A MONTH to India. (I know not exactly the best circumstances). But while he was out there he sent me flowers on Valentine's Day (yeah unexpected surprise) and also sent me a gift basket with bath type stuff. Anyway we kept in touch via email and one or two phone calls and I was excited to get to know him better when he returned. We hung out a few times this past week, but unfortnately I just don't feel any chemistry with him. He's a nice guy and was paying for everything (which I started to feel guilty about), but I just don't see anything happening above friendship with him. When I left him last I told him to give me a call if he wanted to hang out again. I am kinda hoping he feels the same way I do in terms of lack of chemistry so I don't hurt his feelings or disappoint him. He is a nice guy, he's just not for me.

Ok, so no chemistry, but that's ok because it showed me something... it showed me that I am content being on my own right now, and that I don't NEED to be dating anyone. Of course it would be a bonus if some amazing guy walked into my life.

So that's what is new with me and my social life or lack thereof.

Spring Break!

I knew there would be some perks to working in the University setting - one of them is Spring Break... I get to take advantage of a full week off in the middle of the semester... woohoo! Of course I haven't planned an exotic getaway, no excessive boozing or wild sex or the like... but it is still nice to have time off. I have done some fun things so far - I went to see "Failure to Launch" which was cute. There were some funny moments, but not a GREAT movie, just good. There really isn't much in the theater but I still want to see Eight Below. I also went to a Vietnamese Restaurant in Fort Collins yesterday (reminded me of Pho Saigon in Memphis). Sam would have loved it... they bring the noodle soop then all the fixings are put on the table to add in any combination that fits your taste - bean sprouts, halepenos, chili paste, hoisin sauce, fish sauce etc etc. Today I am off to Hobby Lobby to find some frames for my diplomas so I can hang them in my office and have something to show for my 10.5 years of post high school education. Tomorrow I might venture down to some casino area outside Denver. I doubt it will be as good as Tunica, we shall see. I have to go to the podiatrist first for him to look at my toe one week after the surgical procedure. Hopefully he gives me the OK to get back into regular exercise (I haven't been running or jumping or anything so as to not put too much pressure on the toe). Oh yeah, to support my Mom's exercise habits I joined a CURVES out here... figured it wouldn't hurt me either (though I find I have to supplement Curves workouts with additional exercise to get what I feel I need). By the way, they cycle through all types of music there and the past two days that I have been working out there, the music playing was Contemporary Christian. I was talking to some girls there today about looking to find a ministry for someone my age out here... I foudn out about a church up in Fort Collins that might be really good and help me meet more people and get into social activities, so I am going to checkc it out.

That's all for now. I hope all is well with everyone.

Winter Wonderland

Well we had some snow earlier in the week. Unlike the previous dry powdery stuff I saw before this snow was actually a wet snow (much like what we are used to in NY). Thursday morning driving to work I had to deal with some hellish fog (don't know if it was related to the snow) but I will tell you that bare the trees were all coated in a white glistening layer of snow.... absolutely beautiful. Northern Colorado was truly a winter wonderland. So they say that we get a lot more sun than average, and they aren't kidding... sun came out and the signs of snow were pretty much gone by Thursday evening. Then today when I was driving home from work it was sunny out AND snowing... best of both worlds. I have never seen a sun-snow shower, not that I can remember anyway, until today.

So I had ANOTHER partial toenail evulsion (or is it avulsion?) I dont remember... but anyway those of you who know me well enough know I have been suffering from chronic ingrown toenails. I have had a procedure done on both my big toes where the podiatrist cuts the side of the nail and then uses a chemical to burn the root so that it doesn't grow back. Well I had the procedure done TWICE on BOTH toes because the nails grew back... and now a THIRD time on my right toe. The toe looks pretty gross right now, I think this podiatrist took more nail off than the prior two procedures. Hopefully third time will be a charm rather than three strikes and I'm out.

This coming week is Spring Break. I am excited, not that I have plans to go anywhere special, it will just be nice to have a week off.

Anyway that's all for now. I'm tired, so I am off to bed.

In Memoriam

My grandmother passed away this morning. She was in her upper 80s, so at least she lived a full life. As an aside, I always thought her name was Josephine Marie (and that my middle name came from her middle name, as my first name, Tina, came from the first name of my other grandmother - Ernestine). I found out this summer that her first name on her birth certificate was indeed Marie... I thought that was cool, that both my first and middle names came from the first names of both of my grandmothers.

Anyway what is really sad is that I hadn't been to visit her (and my grandfather) since 2001. I was so busy with school (and so broke) that I just kept postponing it. My mom went up there to visit and help take care of some things in February. I was thinking about going at the same time for just a weekend, but we agreed that it would probably be best if I just waited... she was going to go visit again in the summer and I could go then too. So that was the plan, I was going to try and go this summer. Oh well, now it's too late, at least for me to see my grandmother. I hope she knew that I loved her.

I now am concerned about my grandfather. You read about this stuff all the time... people who are together for soooo long become somewhat co-dependent, and when one passes away the other follows not too long after. My grandparents would have been married 63 years this year. That's more than twice my age, it's truly remarkable.

So that news will put a damper on things. My mother has requested that I do not attend the memorial service. Which I think is kinda strange, but apparently the other grandchildren aren't going either. I guess they want it to be really small... she's being cremated so there won't even be a burial. Cremation has always kinda freaked me out.... I really don't know which is worse, being put in a box under ground or being reduced to ashes in a pretty container. I guess this is a morbid discussion, but still, I wonder what other people think... would you prefer to be buried or cremated, and why?
