Wintery Summer Escape

Last week Cullen and I cashed in on our Christmas gift from Britta and Travis - two nights at a time share. We could have picked some place a bit more distant, but since our budget is so tight with planning for the wedding and trying to save for the future, we picked someplace we could drive to.... Steamboat Springs, CO. A beautiful ski town right at the base of the mountain, Steamboat is really neat - downtown shops and restaurants and beautiful surrounds. Did we run into any problems? The weather forecast was for wind rain and snow. Yes folks, SNOW in June. I was mortified. My grandeous visions of hiking, canoeing, and possibly even horseback riding went right out the window. However, the weather turned out to be a blessing in disguise. About 10 miles outside of town, nestled in the mountains is a place called Strawberry Park. It's a natural hot springs. You can only get there via a very windy non paved road (which you are required by law to have chains and/or 4 wheel drive for between Oct-May). My little ol' Saturn made it there, and while it was raining in Steamboat, at the elevation of Strawberry Park it was snowing. It was like a brief wintery wonderland escape from Summer. The place was very rustic - they had a teepee to change in. Heehee. Anyway I have a few pictures of us here at the hot springs. You probably can't tell from the reduced size, but if you look at the pictures individually you can really see that it was snowing at the time. My favorite is of us lounging in the snow, my feet got really cold walking to and from those lounge chairs. Enjoy!
